Welcome to the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF) Project Registration System

Please pay attention to the instructions in your application 

Refer to the OCSEF website (www.ocsef.org) for Rules/Regulations, Project Categories, and general information about the OCSEF

Important:

  • DO NOT SUBMIT DUPLICATE APPLICATIONS. If working in a group, register only one project application. Students who submit Duplicate Applications may be disqualified.
  • The account and application must be submitted in the student's name - NOT PARENT'S NAME. All accounts and applications with parent's name may be disqualified. 
  • Only use non-school email addresses when creating your account and in your project application. We will not be able to contact you if you use a school email address. (Sign up for a free Gmail account if you have no other alternative.)
  • Before you start your science experiment or engineering design, review the OCSEF Rules (www.ocsef.org/ocsef-rules/) to be sure your project meets all requirements.
  • If your project involves Vertebrate Animals, Human Subjects, or Hazardous Materials/Equipment then you will need to complete the corresponding Certification Form. You will also need to complete documentation if your project is conducted in a college, university, or industrial lab.
  • The Scientific Review Committee (SRC) will review your project description to make sure it follows OCSEF rules and CA education code and to be sure the project is safe for all involved (people, animals, etc) before approving your application. If more information is needed, the SRC will send a notification email from the Survey Monkey system.

Schedule

  • Monday July 31, 2023 at 8:00 am PST: Project Registration opens – Required for ALL projects! 
  • Monday February 5, 2024 at 11:59 pm PST: Project Registration closes – Required for ALL projects. No exceptions.
  • Monday February 26, 2024 at 11:59 pm PST: Project Submittal Deadline – including the presentation slide deck, log book, video, and affidavit. No exceptions. Project submittal will be allowed only for students who have completed their project registration on or before the deadline.
  • Wednesday March 6, 2024 Project Judging for Board Awards (Zoom)
  • Sunday March TBD, 2024 Awards Ceremony – TBD (In-Person) ***Subject to change
  • We will be selecting high school and middle school winners for the California Science & Engineering Fair as always!
  • For high school students - there will be a research conference opportunity in May 2024.
  • For high school students - there will be an opportunity to be selected as an OCSEF representative for ISEF 2024.
  • For middle school students – there will be an opportunity to be selected for the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge (formerly known as the Broadcom MASTERS).
